How is Angioplasty performed practically?

You will lie on your back while your heart activity is monitored using ECG electrodes throughout the angioplasty procedure.
Local anesthesia is administered at the insertion site to ensure comfort during angioplasty. General anesthesia is usually not required.
A thin catheter with a small balloon at its tip is inserted into a blood vessel, commonly through the groin, although the arm or wrist may also be used depending on the patient’s condition.
The catheter is carefully guided to the blocked artery using real-time X-ray imaging to ensure accurate placement during angioplasty.
Contrast dye is injected to clearly identify the location and severity of the blockage. You may briefly experience a warm or flushing sensation at this stage.
Once positioned correctly, the balloon is inflated to widen the narrowed artery and restore proper blood flow.
Angiograms are taken to confirm that the artery has been successfully opened.
The balloon is then deflated, the catheter is removed, and the insertion site is closed using manual pressure or sutures.
After the angioplasty procedure, you will rest while your condition is monitored to detect any potential complications and ensure a safe recovery.
